Brilliant Uncirculated Mexico 5 Pesos Gold coin has an AGW (actual gold weight) of 0.1205 ounces. Struck in .900 fine gold, just like U.S. gold coins, it has approximately 1/8 of a troy ounce of gold. Most are dated 1955, which is a date restruck by the Mexico City Mint at the same weight and fineness as the original. A bust of Father Miguel Hidalgo Castillo, who was one of the leaders in the war for Mexican Independence from Spain in 1810 is shown on the obverse. The seal of Mexico is on the reverse, depicting a Golden Eagle with a serpent (or “burning water”) in its beak, standing on a cactus on the island of Tenochtitlan is on the reverse. Struck and restruck for many years, it is one of the best buys in gold bullion, with a very narrow buy/sell spread.
